Student visa (subclass 500)
The student visa allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognised education institution for up to 5 years depending on your course. To apply for a student visa, you must first be accepted to study in a registered full-time course at an education institution in Australia. You can apply inside or outside Australia.

Student Visa Requirements
With an Australian Student visa you can do the following:
- Bring family members to Australia
- Travel to and from the country
- Work for up to 40 hours every two weeks during your course semester (Until 30 June 2023, students may now work more than 40 hours a fortnight)
To apply for a student visa you must meet the following;
- provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at a full-time course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students (the college or University that you are seeking to enrole in may have additional requirements more than that required by the department of immigration
- prove that you are a genuine temporary entrant
- demonstrate the required level of English for your circumstances
- health insurance cover
- meet health and character requirements
- show evidence of your financial capacity to pay for your expenses during your studies
